A woman who says Russell Brand raped her at his Hampstead home told police she did not think an attack like that ‘would happen to a nice girl’, a court has heard.

Brand is accused of raping the woman after meeting her when she came to one of his stand-up performances at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2009.

She told police she willingly had a threesome with Brand backstage at the Apollo, then went to his Hampstead home knowing they would have sex.

But she says a consensual encounter became rape when Brand started having anal sex with her and ignored her pleas for him to stop.

‘I didn’t think what happened to me would happen to a nice girl,’ she said in her video-recorded interview played to Southwark Crown Court.

She said when she arrived at his home, Brand forced her to shower while he watched, then instructed her to brush her teeth with a toothbrush that had been laid out.

The woman said she ‘wanted it to be over’ during the consensual sex, she recounted the ‘traumatic’ anal rape, and told police Brand had put Quantum Leap on the TV when it was all over.

She told police: ‘From the very moment it happened, I felt I had willingly gone there and from what his reputation was, what did I expect?’

She said Brand ‘hurt me and harmed me, and when I asked him to stop he didn’t’, and she added: ‘The horror in anyone that I told was not enough to make me believe I didn’t deserve it.’

Brand denies all the charges he faces – three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one charge of indecent assault.

The woman – who is the final alleged victim to give evidence – said she had a threesome with Brand backstage at the Hammersmith Apollo, but was left feeling ‘awful’ and ‘disgusting’.

She said Brand invited three women to have drinks with him after he performed to the packed crowd at the venue in February 2009, pointing at them in the foyer and simply saying ‘you’.

She said she refused to have full sex with Brand because she had a boyfriend at the time, but had performed oral sex on the comedian and watched on as he had sex with the other woman.

When she told Brand she had a boyfriend, she said he told her: ‘We don’t belong to anyone, we’re all free, the ownership of people is sort of what we’ve been sold, and that I shouldn’t feel bad.’

The woman told police: ‘I was quite tearful at this point as well,’ and she added: ‘I just came out feeling f****** awful.

‘The scenario was not something I had been in before, and I felt kind of disgusting, if I’m honest, when I came out, but that was more about how I felt about being there.’

The court heard the woman confessed to her boyfriend afterwards and they split up.

She says she went on to exchange texts with Brand, and she was picked up by his driver to go to his home in Hampstead.

She told police she was a ‘massive Russell Brand fan’ and a ‘massive comedy fan’ when she went to the Hammersmith Apollo show.

She and her friend were ‘selected’ by the comedian in the foyer after the performance, she said, when the comedian pointed at her and said: ‘You’.

‘We were invited upstairs for drinks with Russell and whoever else was up there,’ she said.

The woman added that she was ‘excited’ to be asked and ‘quite giddy’, but also recalled thinking ‘what the hell am I doing?’

She told police she decided to have sex with Brand again after the breakdown of her relationship.

She told the police officer: ‘I want to make this really clear, that I went there knowing that I would have sex with him.

‘I’ve really struggled for a really long time to accept what happened to me, because I went there knowingly and willingly.’

She recalled believing that Brand did not care who she was as the consensual sexual encounter started.

She said: ‘It didn’t matter that I was there. I remember thinking I just want it to be over.

‘It felt very awkward. It didn’t matter who I was, and I just sort of wanted it to be over.’

She says Brand removed the condom and anally raped her without warning, telling the court: ‘I don’t know how long it took for me between it going on and me asking him to stop, I don’t think it was very long.’

Afterwards she says the comedian looked ‘horrified’ and instructed her to ‘clear up the mess you have made’.

She recalled using wipes and black toilet roll from Brand’s bathroom, and told police: ‘I did it, and I don’t know why.’

She added: ‘He put the TV on, I remember it was something like Quantum Leap.’

The woman said she told friends and family afterwards, and went through sexual health tests, believing she had contracted a disease from Brand.

Earlier Russell Brand’s wife Laura Gallacher raised her eyebrows and shook her head as she heard the testimony of one of her husband’s alleged victims.

While a fourth accuser broke down in tears as she recalled the other people who ‘didn’t try to stop him’, Brand looked on blankly from the dock.

Gallacher was seen listening ‘intently’ in the gallery, but raised her eyebrows and shook her head, whispering to a woman near her during the victim’s testimony.

Ian Winter KC asked: ‘Why didn’t you go to the police?’

The victim replied: ‘I didn’t go to the police because, as I said already, I would have thought about a few things: one, who’s going to believe me; two, I could lose my job, and I have a mortgage to pay.

‘And as my mum would say, and you know what – I didn’t even tell my mum because she’s the kind of person who says, ‘you know what, it happened, move on.’

Asked about the other people in the room during the alleged assault, she said: ‘They didn’t try to stop him, they didn’t move him.’

The woman told the court she had asked police why those people did not come forward, to stop it from being ‘my word against his’.

She added that she was ‘losing money by being here’ and had ‘flown halfway around the world’ to be in court.

Earlier today, Brand laughed after pinning a woman against a wall and kissing her ‘sloppily’ at a radio station, the court heard.

The comedian, now 51, is accused of sexually assaulting the woman in the mid-2000s after encountering her at the Choice FM studios in central London.

She told Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday that Brand appeared to find it funny after grabbing her breasts and forcefully kissing her.

She told jurors that three men and a woman with Brand witnessed the incident and ‘did nothing’, other than to laugh afterwards to ‘break the silence’.

When faced with questions about her account, the woman said: ‘This was a situation I did not want to be in. I wanted it to go away. I don’t gain a single thing by saying ‘Russell Brand did that to me’.

‘I have nothing to gain at all.’

The trial continues.
